January, 2018 – San Francisco
December, 2017 – Beach Vacation
November, 2017 – Arizona
October, 2017 – Huatulco, Mexico
So you’ve heard about our newest winter getaway destination, Huatulco [wah-tool-co], and you want to know what it’s all about. Well we’ve got you covered with the 5 W’s of Huatulco!
Huatulco is located on the Pacific coast of Mexico, and is the most southern tourist destination in the country. Its remote location makes Huatulco the perfect place to escape the hustle and bustle and spend your time relaxing and unwinding.
WestJet’s new non-stop service between Edmonton and Huatulco will start November 2, 2017.
Weekly flights depart Edmonton every Thursday at 10:30 am and land in Huatulco at 4:22 pm. On return, weekly flights also depart from Huatulco at 5:45 pm every Thursday and land in Edmonton at 11:40 pm.
Plus, Grande Prairie, Yellowknife, Fort McMurray, Saskatoon, Regina and Kelowna have awesome connecting flights to get you there.
What is Huatulco you ask? It’s a beautiful paradise with 330 days of sunshine each year and an average daily temperature of 28 degrees Celsius! Huatulco is made up of a series of nine scenic bays and 36 beaches, with foothills of the Sierra Madre mountains surrounding the area.
If you’re interested in learning about Huatulco’s heritage, visit the communities and villages in the area, such as La Crucecita, Santa Cruz or old Santa Maria Huatulco. You can try the local restaurants and shop for hand-crafted goods.
For history dating back over 2,000 years, make sure to stop by the Copalita Eco-Archeological Park. Copalita Park provides an interesting glimpse into the region’s pre-Hispanic heritage and is the site of the ancient city of Copatitlan.
There are many reasons why you should choose Huatulco as your winter escape this year.
It’s an outdoor adventurer’s paradise. You can explore the area’s lush jungle on hiking excursions, visit secluded beaches by boat and admire the tropical fish while scuba diving or snorkeling.
It’s also the perfect destination for relaxation. If you’d prefer to sit back and soak up the sun with no interruptions, the remote environment makes Huatulco a great choice. You can easily find a spot on the beach without fighting crowds along the way.
Huatulco also received the Green Globe award for being the first sustainable tourism destination in the Americas. So you can take in the natural scenery knowing the area is protected.

May, 2017 - London Gatwick
EIA employee, Gillian, travelled to London in 2016. With three days to explore, here is a collection of the unique places she discovered.
Mind the Gap
The London Underground (‘the Underground’ or simply ‘the Tube’) is the world’s first underground railway dating back to 1863. With 270 stations it is a convenient and cost effective way to get anywhere in London. Don’t be intimidated getting around, the tube maps are easy to follow. As you travel through the stations you will see stunning architecture that makes you feel like you are travelling back in time. Grab yourself an Oyster Card, travel like a Londoner and remember to mind the gap!
Eating in the Loo
As you drink your tea and devour a freshly baked pastry, you might realize that there is something unique about The Attendant. This café was formerly a 19th century Victorian men’s public washroom (don’t worry, they scrubbed it clean). Tucked away underground, the average tourist might not even notice the entrance, but this hidden gem is only a 5 minute walk from Oxford Street and will provide the perfect place for a unique and delicious lunch.
Picnic in the Park
Sprawling over 350 acres and containing over 4,000 trees, a lake, a meadow and ornamental flower gardens, Hyde Park it is the perfect place to escape the hustle and bustle of London. Visitors can explore the park on foot or even rent a bike for as little as £2.
Around Big Ben
As a prominent symbol of the United Kingdom, Elizabeth Tower, home to the iconic bell, Big Ben, is a must see in London. After you grab your selfie in front of this icon, take a seven minute walk to the London Eye. With 360 views of London, you can plot your next adventure as you tower over the city. Or, head to Piccadilly Circus to take in the world famous lights and signs in the vibrant hub of London’s West End.
An Eclectic Shopping Experience
Camden Market is the perfect place to find a unique and memorable souvenir of your trip to London. After spending hours exploring the eclectic mix of stores and stalls, you can grab a snack at the Cereal Killer Cafe. This Cafe takes you on a nostalgic trip back into the 1990s where you get to eat all of the sugary cereals your mother never let you have.
Seasonal non-stop flights to London Gatwick with WestJet take off June 24 – August 28, 2017 on Mondays and Saturdays.* Don't miss London in the summer; book your flights now at westjet.com.
